Asset (concept)
- •
What it is
- •
Something you value and want to protect — in a digital security context, usually a form of information (emails, contact lists, messages, location history, files) or a device that holds that information.

Why it matters
- •
Threat modeling starts by listing your assets, because you can't reason about "who's after my stuff" or "how bad would it be to lose it" until you know precisely what "it" is. Vague concern about "privacy" in general is much harder to act on than a concrete list of specific assets and where they live.
